Jack MurrayMar 18, 2024

After signing a free-agent contract with the New York Jets, offensive tackle Tyron Smith paid tribute to his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.

Smith took to Instagram to thank the organization and its fans for the support he was given over his 13 seasons with the franchise. He shouted out the team's offensive line specifically, saying it would "always hold a special place in my heart."

He also said he will "never forget the feeling of running out of the tunnel at AT&T Stadium or the roar of the crowd after a big play."

"Cowboy Nation–thank you for everything," Smith wrote. "While I'm excited for this next chapter of my football career, part of my heart will forever be left in Texas. Until we meet again..."

Smith earned eight Pro Bowl nods and two All-Pro designations during his time with the franchise. He made 161 regular-season starts and played in nine playoff games for the Cowboys.

He signed a one-year deal with the Jets that is worth up to $20 million, with $6.5 million guaranteed. He will be tasked with helping a Jets line that surrendered 64 sacks, including a notable one that resulted in a torn Achilles for quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the first game of the season.

New York went 7-10 in 2023 and finished in third place in the AFC East. The Cowboys and Jets will not face each other during the 2024 regular season.
