The Huntley signing comes after the franchise signed 2016 No. 1 pick Jameis Winston last week. Both signings will join Deshaun Watson and Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the position group. Four different quarterbacks appeared in at least five games for Cleveland in 2023.
The shuffling of quarterbacks didn't ruin the Browns season in 2023, as the team went 11-6 and reached the postseason. Joe Flacco even earned the NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award for his efforts for the Browns, and turned that into a contract with the Indianapolis Colts.
Cleveland will hope that Watson will be able to put together a full season as the starter, but that has been easier said than done during his tenure with the team. The 28-year-old has played just 12 games in two seasons for the franchise, and compiled an 8-4 record in those games.
Winston will likely be the next option off the bench, and his 22,104 passing yards make him an intriguing backup. However, Huntley is no slouch as an insurance piece.
He made the Pro Bowl in 2022 during his relief duty for Lamar Jackson and has shown some duel threat ability during his NFL career.
He also could give the Browns an insight into the Ravens offense, which could prove to be very valuable as the team aims to earn its first Division title since its re-entry into the league in 1999.
