Lakers Rumors: Anthony Davis Regains Vision After Eye Injury, May Play vs. Hawks

Doric SamMar 18, 2024

Los Angeles Lakers star center Anthony Davis has regained his vision after suffering an eye injury on Saturday and could be available to play in Monday's game against the Atlanta Hawks, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Davis left the Lakers' game against the Golden State Warriors in the first quarter on Saturday due to a left eye contusion. Los Angeles went on to suffer a 128-121 loss at home after its star big man went down. ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that Davis would be monitored before his status is determined for the team's matchup against the Hawks.

Davis had been hindered by various injuries over the past few years, but he's been relatively healthy this season. He appeared in 65 out of the Lakers' first 69 games, including the In-Season Tournament Championship victory over the Indiana Pacers.

The 31-year-old ranks second on the Lakers with 24.5 points per game and leads the team with 12.3 rebounds and 2.4 blocks this season. He has been the perfect complement to Los Angeles star LeBron James, but the team's lack of depth behind its star duo has been detrimental to its playoff chase.

At 36-32, the Lakers rank 10th in the Western Conference. With the postseason quickly approaching, a trip to the play-in tournament seems to be the most likely scenario for Los Angeles.

If Davis is forced to miss time, backup center Jaxson Hayes will be moved into the starting lineup. The Lakers are certainly hoping to have Davis fully healthy for the playoffs, so it wouldn't be surprising if they were cautious with his recovery.
