NBA Rumors: Isaiah Thomas, Suns Agree to 10-Day Contract After G-League Stint

Isaiah Thomas is back in the NBA.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that the 11-year veteran is "planning to sign a 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns."

Thomas last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season, but just joined the Salt Lake City Stars, who are the G-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz. He played four games with the Stars before the Suns swooped in and offered him the contract.

The two-time All-Star has career averages of 17.7 points, 4.8 assists and 2.4 rebounds. His best days in the NBA came during his tenure with the Boston Celtics from 2014-2017, where he averaged 24.7 points and played in 25 playoff games with the franchise.

A right femoral-acetabuler impingement with a labral tear derailed his career after the Celtics tenure, and he had more of a reserve role for several different teams before eventually being an unsigned free agent.

He credited his love for the game as a reason to return, and he has looked like his prime self in the G-League. He is averaging 33 points in the G-League, and even NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett praised Thomas' comeback.

Thomas will get a chance to compete for a bigger role on a Suns team that has high aspirations. Phoenix is 39-28 and currently sits in seventh place in the Western Conference. This means it would contend in the play-in tournament, so the Suns hope Thomas can provide a spark and lead the team to a more prominent position in the standings.
