Justin Fields Thanks Bears After Steelers Trade, Wishes Them 'Nothing but Success'

Erin WalshMar 16, 2024

Justin Fields will never forget his time with the Chicago Bears, but he's also excited for his next chapter with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fields, who was traded to Pittsburgh on Saturday in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick that will become a fourth-rounder based on playing time, thanked the Bears in a post on X after news of the deal broke:

Fields had been included in trade rumors since Chicago landed the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, giving the franchise the opportunity to start fresh at the position and perhaps select USC standout Caleb Williams.

With Fields headed to Pittsburgh, Williams is now more than likely to be drafted by the Bears.

Fields, meanwhile, will backup Russell Wilson in the Black and Gold, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Brooke Pryor.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer added that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin "was upfront with Justin Fields—told him that Russell Wilson is the starter, and Fields will work from there."

Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Steelers after being released by the Denver Broncos. If he struggles in his first season with the franchise, Fields could potentially take over as QB1.
