Vikings Rumors: Harrison Smith Agrees to Restructured Contract, Will Return in 2024

The Minnesota Vikings and safety Harrison Smith have agreed to a restructured contract that will enable the six-time Pro Bowler to return to the team for his 13th NFL season, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Smith's agency, Athletes First, told Pelissero that the new deal is for $9 million.

The 35-year-old Smith, who joined Minnesota as the No. 29 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft out of Notre Dame, started all 17 games last season, amassing 93 tackles and three sacks.

Smith is a Vikings legend who could be in contention for a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame down the line. From 2015-2021, Smith made all six of his Pro Bowls and earned a spot on the 2017 All-Pro team. He's amassed 1,039 tackles and 34 interceptions during his 12 seasons.

In a time of transition for the team, which has lost offensive and defensive leaders in quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive end Danielle Hunter, having Smith's voice and presence around is even more valuable now as the squad looks to bounce back from a 7-10 campaign.

From a financial standpoint, this is Smith's second straight restructure after he agreed to a new deal for the 2023 campaign as well ($8 million, $2 million more in incentives).
