NFL Trade Rumors: Broncos' Courtland Sutton Not Being Shopped After Jerry Jeudy Deal

Paul KasabianMar 12, 2024

The Denver Broncos currently aren't shopping wide receiver Courtland Sutton, per The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt.

That report comes a few days after the Broncos dealt wideout Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns for 2024 fifth- and sixth-round draft picks.

The 28-year-old Sutton has played all six of his seasons with the Broncos. Last year, the ex-SMU star caught 59 passes for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Sutton has two years remaining on a four-year, $60 million contract extension.

The Broncos are undergoing a major rebuild, with the biggest move being the impending release of quarterback Russell Wilson. Denver signed Wilson a five-year, $242.6 million deal and will now take a $85 million hit in dead money, per ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

Denver will also release safety (and longtime defensive cornerstone) Justin Simmons, a four-time member of the 2023 NFL All-Pro Second Team.

Now Jeudy is out, but it appears Sutton is among the core pieces staying in town.

Sutton is certainly a good wideout and playmaker, and it'll behoove Denver to have him on the roster next year. But it's clear the Broncos are starting from scratch and may have significant trouble competing next season.

For starters, they'll be in the market for a quarterback now, unless they want to give Jarrett Stidham (who took over for a benched Wilson down the stretch) a shot. Denver also needs more reinforcements on a defense that allowed the sixth-most points in football last year, including 70 alone to the Miami Dolphins.

Ultimately, it could be tough sledding in Denver, but Sutton is a key bright spot that will help shepherd the team through tough times.
