After the Denver Broncos announced they planned on releasing Wilson when the new league year begins Wednesday, it took him less than a week to agree to a one-year deal with the Steelers. The deal is reportedly worth the veteran's minimum of $1.2 million, as the Broncos will pay the remainder of his $37.8 million salary while he plays for Pittsburgh.

Joining the Steelers gives Wilson the opportunity to bounce back from a lackluster two-year run in Denver. He will be playing under one of the best coaches in the NFL in Mike Tomlin, who has proved capable of getting the best out of his players.

Wilson will likely take over the starting quarterback position from Kenny Pickett, who is entering his third year in the league. While the 2022 first-round pick has shown flashes of being a capable starter, he has yet to find consistency in his young career. Sitting behind Wilson for a year could benefit Pickett in the long run.

Wilson's deal with the Steelers will allow them more flexibility in free agency. Pittsburgh landed one of the top defensive players on the market on Tuesday by agreeing to a three-year, $41 million deal with former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen, who was selected to his first Pro Bowl last season.
