Bill Belichick's HC Career 'Could Be Over,' Says Ex-NFL Super Bowl Winning Exec

Bill Belichick's career in the NFL may be over according to one former league executive.

"As far as a head coach, yeah, I think this might be the end of the road for him," former New York Giants exec Marc Ross, who now works for NFL Network, told TMZ Sports.

The New England Patriots parted ways with Belichick after 24 seasons in January. He interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons' vacancy but was passed over for the job in favor of Raheem Morris.

At age 71, there is no reason for Belichick to return to coaching beyond his personal drive for competition. He's unquestionably considered the greatest coach in NFL history, winning a record six Super Bowls and appearing in nine. No other coach has won more than four or appeared in more than six Super Bowls.

While he would likely never make the admission publicly, Belichick may have a desire to retire as the winningest coach in NFL history. He currently sits 26 wins behind Don Shula on the all-time regular-season list and is 14 wins back of Shula when accounting for the regular season and playoffs combined.

If Belichick wants another job, he'll almost certainly land one next offseason. Even though it became obvious he was losing his fastball late in his New England tenure—particularly as a talent evaluator—Belichick's name recognition and resume alone will garner a ton of interest.

The only way Belichick doesn't land on a sideline is if he's particular about which job he takes. As he saw with Atlanta, certain teams will choose a younger coach who does not command as much control over an organization.
