NFL Fans Troll Trevor Lawrence Entering QB Battle with Mac Jones after Patriots Trade
Mac Jones is reportedly heading from the frigid northeast back to his hometown in sunny Florida.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots are finalizing a trade that will send Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars when the new league year begins on Wednesday. Jones was born and raised in Jacksonville, so he should have no problems with the change in scenery.
The trade ends a rollercoaster three-year run in New England for Jones, who arrived as the No. 15 pick in the 2021 draft. After being selected to the Pro Bowl as an alternate in his rookie year, he has regressed mightily over each of the last two seasons.

During the 2023 campaign, the 25-year-old was benched three times during games for Bailey Zappe before eventually being permanently replaced for the remainder of the year. He finished the season with career lows of 2,120 yards and 10 touchdowns while throwing 12 interceptions in 11 games.
Now, Jones will have the opportunity to start anew in Jacksonville, where he will presumably be the backup to his 2021 draft classmate Trevor Lawrence.
However, fans on social media couldn't help but troll the trade on Sunday, as many found it comical that Jones and Lawrence are now sharing the same quarterback room:
Jones will make things interesting in Jacksonville if he can push Lawrence in training camp and show that he still has what it takes to be a starter. However, the offense still belongs to Lawrence, meaning Jones will likely start the year as the backup quarterback.
Jones has one year left on his rookie deal if the Jaguars don't pick up his fifth-year option. Spending the 2024 season on the sidelines behind Lawrence could end up helping him in the long run.
