NFL Trade Rumors: Chargers 'Open' to Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa Offers Ahead of 2024 FA

Andrew PetersMar 9, 2024

The Los Angeles Chargers are reportedly open to trading pass-rushers Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, per The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

According to Russini, there has been interest in the two players, but many teams are waiting to see if the Chargers cut them before pursuing a trade.

Mack, 33, had 74 tackles and 17 sacks last season in his second year with the Chargers. Bosa, 28, had 20 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2023, but he was limited to just nine games due to injuries.

Mack will be entering the final year of a $141 million contract in 2024 while Bosa will be entering the fourth year of a five-year, $135 million deal next season.

As the Chargers enter the Jim Harbaugh era, Mack and Bosa leave them with some decisions to make. If Los Angeles were to cut Bosa, who has played 14 games over the last two seasons amid injuries, it would save the team $22 million with a dead money charge of $14.6 million if he is released after June 1, per ESPN's Kris Rhim. If the Chargers trade or release him before June 1, it would save them $14.3 million with a dead money charge of $22.2 million.

While Bosa has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, he has proved to be one of the best edge rushers in the league when healthy. If the Chargers choose not to hold on to Bosa, they could likely get a significant haul in a potential trade.

Mack is coming off one of the best seasons of his career where he recorded a career-high in sacks and the most tackles he's had since 2017. Like Bosa, Los Angeles could likely get a significant trade package for Mack. It would save Los Angeles $23.2 million with a $15.2 million dead money charge to cut or trade him, according to Rhim.
