Heisman Trophy Will Be in EA Sports' College Football 25; Other Awards Opt Out
The vast majority of people will never have the opportunity to win the Heisman Trophy.
But the virtual Heisman Trophy is back in play thanks to EA Sports College Football 25.
The Heisman Trophy revealed Friday that it will be included in the newest version of the game, which was last released through NCAA Football 14:
While the sport's most famous trophy will be included, the same cannot be said for other individual awards. Pete Nakos of On 3 reported the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) opted out of the game.
That means the Bednarik, Biletnikoff, Davey O'Brien, Doak Walker, Grozo, Jim Thorpe, Maxwell, Outland and Ray Guy awards will not be featured.
"The offer that has been made is not adequate for the rights fee for the awards," Mark Wolpert, who is the president of NCFAA, said.
Without the other awards to compete for, gamers may be even more focused on pursuing the Heisman Trophy. And they will have the majority of current players available to do so, as EA Sports revealed more than 10,000 athletes have opted into the game.
Players who opted into allowing EA Sports to use their name, image and likeness will receive $600 and a copy of the game when it is released.
