Lakers Rumors: Gabe Vincent Hopes to Return from Knee Injury in Mid-to-Late March

Doric SamMar 6, 2024

The Los Angeles Lakers have been without point guard Gabe Vincent for the majority of this season, but that reportedly could change soon.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Vincent is hoping to make his return from his knee injury in mid-to-late March.

Charania added that the Lakers "will know more about Vincent's status next week."

Vincent has appeared in just five games this season and averaged 5.4 points and 3.0 assists. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in December, as lingering issues in the knee became too much to ignore.

The 27-year-old signed a three-year, $33 million contract with Los Angeles this offseason after spending the last four seasons with the Miami Heat. Vincent had an impressive showing in the 2023 playoffs as the Heat made a run to the NBA Finals. He was expected to be the replacement for veteran point guard Dennis Schroder, who signed with the Toronto Raptors this offseason.

Without Vincent in the lineup, the Lakers signed Spencer Dinwiddie to add some depth to the backcourt. In nine games with Los Angeles, Dinwiddie is averaging 5.1 points and 3.6 assists off the bench.

At 34-29, the Lakers rank ninth in the Western Conference. Los Angeles has won seven of its last 10 games, so the team appears to be figuring things out at the right time.

Getting Vincent back would boost the Lakers' chances of climbing the standings as the playoff race continues to heat up.

Los Angeles will be hosting the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday.
