Amanda Serrano vs. Nina Mienke Canceled Due to Failed Medical Exam
Amanda Serrano will have to wait to defend her WBO, IBF and WBA women's featherweight titles against Nina Meinke. Her title defense was canceled after Serrano was deemed medically unfit to fight by the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission.
Serrano's promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, released an official statement explaining the cancellation:
Per the release, Meinke will be paid her purse money in full as well as providing full refunds for those who attended the event.
Serrano also took to her own social media to address fans, her management and Meinke after the fight was canceled:
Serrano was to fight Meinke in a return to her native Puerto Rico for the first time since 2021. A clearly emotional Serrano addressed the crowd after the announcement and explained she tried to press on through a cornea injury.
Fellow women's boxing great Claressa Shields expressed her hopes for a speedy recovery:
Serrano was hoping to continue her historic run as featherweight champion. She made history with her last title defense was fought for 12 three-minute rounds, which is typically reserved for men's bouts.
Serrano insisted on the change for her last title defense against Danila Ramos which resulted in a unanimous decision victory. The WBC did not recognize the title defense because of the time format and Serrano subsequently relinquished her WBC title.
This bout was scheduled to be fought under the same time format and would have continued to cement her legacy as one of the best of all time.
Now it appears she'll have to take some time to heal before getting back in the ring again.
