Xavier Worthy's 2024 NFL Draft Stock Soars as Fans React in Awe over Record 40 Time
Xavier Worthy made history on Saturday.
The former Texas wide receiver recorded a time of 4.21 seconds in the 40-yard dash, setting the new record at the NFL scouting combine. He surpassed the previous mark of 4.22 seconds, which was set by former Cincinnati Bengals wideout John Ross III in 2017.

Worthy's time was unofficially recorded as 4.22 seconds at first, although it was later updated to 4.21 seconds once it was made official.
He was confident in himself heading into the drill, telling reporters on Friday that he wanted to finish in 4.2 seconds. While he may have fallen just short of his own lofty expectations, he surpassed the expectations that nearly everyone else had for him.
Worthy's speed amazed both fans and players alike, as the receiver boosted his draft stock in a major way.
The 20-year-old wrapped up a phenomenal season with the Longhorns in 2023, recording 75 catches for 1,014 yards to go along with five touchdowns. While there are some concerns regarding his frame after he measured in at just over 5'11" and 165 pounds on Saturday, it's hard to ignore his record-setting 40-yard dash.
Worthy put NFL front offices on notice with his blazing speed, which will likely cause him to shoot up draft boards and make some more money on his first professional contract as a result.
