Britt Reid, Son of Chiefs HC Andy, Has DUI Sentence Commuted By Missouri Governor

Britt Reid, the son of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, had his sentence commuted by Missouri Governor Mike Parson, according to Greg Dailey of KCTV.

The younger Reid pleaded guilty to a felony of driving while intoxicated in September 2022 after he was involved in a car crash in February 2021 that caused injuries to five people including five-year-old Ariel Young, who was severely hurt (via Meredith Deliso of ABC News).

He was sentenced to three years in the Missouri Department of Corrections following his conviction. Tom Porto, the attorney for Ariel Young's family, released a statement after the sentence was announced in November 2022.

"The victims of this crime are outraged the Defendant was not sentenced to the maximum sentence allowable by law," the statement read, via Dailey and KCTV's Cyndi Fahrlander. "No amount of prison time will ever be enough to punish the Defendant for the pain and suffering he caused this family and the ongoing difficulties that Ariel will continue to endure for the rest of her life."

The Chiefs paid for Young's medical expenses after the crash, while Reid was placed on administrative leave before his contract as the team's outside linebackers coach officially expired.

Per Dailey, Reid will be under house arrest until Oct. 31, 2025. The governor's office stated that his probation will entail weekly meetings with a parole officer, weekly behavioral counseling attendance, weekly meetings with a peer support sponsor and stringent community service as well as employment requirements.

Reid had faced up to four years in prison as part of his plea deal.
