Caleb Williams Says He'll Do Medical Exams with Teams He Visits Before 2024 NFL Draft

USC star quarterback Caleb Williams has famously planned for his moment in the NFL draft for years, so he's going to be very deliberate in his approach to meeting with teams.

Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday, Williams said he plans to do medical exams with teams that he meets with.

The presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft also said he plans on visiting with "a good amount of teams" throughout the predraft process.

Williams explained he wasn't going to go through full medical testing at the combine because there aren't 32 teams that can draft him, but he will allow clubs he visits to examine him.

Per CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, Williams is believed to be the first combine invitee who attended the event after declining medical exams. He isn't going to participate in any of the throwing drills this weekend, either.

Williams will have an opportunity to meet with teams in Indianapolis, but clubs are only permitted to speak with prospects for 18 minutes at the combine. They will get a much better understanding of the player in a one-on-one setting during the top-30 interviews.

Whatever Williams' motivation is to not take part in a medical evaluation this week, it seems unlikely to have any negative impact on his draft stock. He's the favorite to be selected No. 1 overall.

B/R's NFL scouting department projected the Washington Commanders to trade up one spot with the Chicago Bears to take Williams in its post-Super Bowl mock draft.

Whichever team winds up landing Williams is going to be very optimistic about its future at quarterback. He threw for 10,082 yards, ran for 966 yards and accounted for 120 total touchdowns in 37 games over three seasons in college.

Williams won the Heisman Trophy in 2022, becoming the first USC player to capture the award since Reggie Bush in 2005. Bush's Heisman was later vacated after USC was sanctioned by the NCAA stemming from improper benefits he received during his college career.
