Video: Channing Frye Says LeBron James' Lakers Have '0' Chance of Winning NBA Title
Former NBA forward and current analyst Channing Frye believes the LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers' chances of winning the NBA championship are "zero," making his remarks alongside Michelle Beadle on FanDuel's "Run It Back" show.
Frye, who was teammates with James on the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2015-2018, made clear that he loves the four-time NBA MVP and commended him on averaging 25.0 PPG as a 39-year-old.
However, Frye also noted the 31-28 Lakers' 10th-place spot in the Western Conference standings and how that puts them in a precarious spot.
If the season ended today, the Lakers would play Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in a play-in elimination game, which Frye called "50-50."
Frye also noted the difficulty of potential matchups against the eighth-place Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the play-in, as well as the top-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves in a possible first-round postseason series.
DraftKings Sportsbook is a little more optimistic than Frye, albeit not by too much. The Lakers have been given 28-1 odds to win the title, or a roughly 3.4 percent chance, per Ace Odds.
Those odds will surely increase if the Lakers can make a run and get out of the play-in portion of the standings. That's not impossible, with the sixth-place Phoenix Suns just three-and-a-half games ahead of them.
However, the West is loaded with star power and looking like a gauntlet. While the Lakers certainly have a non-zero chance to win it all, doing so will still be a Herculean task.
