Jaylen Waddle Trade Not Being Considered by Dolphins GM: 'No Thoughts' of Dealing WR

Doric SamFeb 28, 2024

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

While speaking to reporters at the NFL Combine on Wednesday, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier was asked about possibly trading the 25-year-old and he chuckled before saying, "No thoughts of trading Jaylen Waddle. He'll be around here for a long time."

The sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft, Waddle is one of the brightest young receivers in the NFL. He has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his three seasons.

In 2023, Waddle appeared in 14 games and finished with 72 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns. He and Tyreek Hill were one of just four pairs of teammates to notch over 1,000 receiving yards. Hill led the league with 1,799 yards and tied with Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Mike Evans with a league-high 13 touchdowns.

The idea of the Dolphins trading Waddle was floated by ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum earlier this month, and it drew reactions from both Waddle and Hill on social media:

The Dolphins went 11-6 last season and made the playoffs for the second straight year. However, Miami fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card Round and hasn't won a playoff game since 2000, the longest active drought in the league.

Keeping Waddle in the fold will give the Dolphins their best chance at ending that streak at some point. With quarterback Tua Tagovailoa leading the way, Miami had the best offense in the NFL last season and the team will surely be motivated to be even better in 2024.
