Eagles' Nick Sirianni on Haason Reddick Trade Rumors: 'Hopefully He's an Eagle'
Two weeks after Haason Reddick received permission from the Philadelphia Eagles to seek a trade, head coach Nick Sirianni is speaking out about his hope to keep the two-time Pro Bowler.
Sirianni told reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis he's unsure about how things will play out with Reddick, but "hopefully he's an Eagle" when all is said and done.
General manager Howie Roseman explained the Reddick rumors come from trying to blend "what you're trying to do this year" with "how you're going to look in the future," but praised him for being a valuable part of the defense.
In a surprise report on Super Bowl Sunday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said the Eagles granted Reddick's camp permission to seek a trade.
Reddick took to X to clarify he never asked the Eagles for a trade, but he understands "it's a business" that leads to some potentially difficult decisions.
The Eagles are projected to have nine picks in the 2024 NFL draft, including three of the top 53 selections. Trading Reddick would likely allow them to add to that total.
Reddick is entering the final season of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Eagles as a free agent in March 2022.
The deal has worked out great for the Eagles. Reddick has recorded 27 sacks over the past two seasons, including a career-high 16 in 2022.
Philadelphia's cap is in good shape that it can afford to bring Reddick back in 2024. The team is currently $32.5 million under the cap. Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham are the club's key free agents. Kelce and Cox are rumored to be considering retirement, though neither has made an official announcement.
Graham has said he will retire after the 2024 season. In addition to potentially having to fill those roles on the roster if any or all of that group isn't back next season, the Eagles also need to add a lot of help on defense after that unit collapsed down the stretch in 2023.
Reddick's $21.4 million cap hit next season is the most expensive on the Eagles' roster. His $14.25 million base salary is also the richest on the team.
