Clippers' Paul George Out vs. LeBron James, Lakers with Knee Injury

Erin WalshFeb 27, 2024

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Lakers with a knee injury.

George did not practice on Tuesday and head coach Tyronn Lue told reporters that "he's hurt," without going into further detail.

George has been mostly healthy this season, though he missed Sunday's loss to the Sacramento Kings with left knee soreness—the fourth game he missed this year because of the ailment.

The 33-year-old has dealt with knee issues since joining the Clippers ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, so the franchise has always been cautious with any issues that pop up given his inability to stay on the court.

George has played well this season, too, averaging 22.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 52 games while shooting 45.6 percent from the floor and 39.5 percent from beyond the arc.

George's health—and Kawhi Leonard's—has played a big role in L.A.'s success this year. The Clippers sit fourth in the Western Conference with a 37-19 record and are just 2.5 games back of the first-place Minnesota Timberwolves.

With the Clippers having a real chance to make a deep playoff run this season, keeping George healthy and preserving him for the postseason is a priority.

With George sidelined on Wednesday, Amir Coffey and Norman Powell should see more playing time. P.J. Tucker could also see some playing time, though he has been mostly out of Lue's rotation this season.
