CM Punk in WWE 2K24; Becky Lynch Eyes Conor McGregor in WWE; Rumors on Piper's Injury
Bleacher Report catches you up on the latest news from the WWE Universe.
CM Punk Added to WWE 2K24 Roster
2K Sports apparently heard about CM Punk's desire to be included in WWE 2K24.
WWE announced on Monday night that Punk will be included in the first DLC pack released for the new video game.
The season-pass will include five post-launch DLC character packs that give gamers access to more than 20 additional superstars not included in the original lineup.
The first pack, which launches on May 15, is the ECW Punk Pack. It will include CM Punk, the Dudley Boys, Sandman and Terry Funk. Jade Cargill is included in the Global Superstars Pack that releases on Sept. 20.
It wasn't clear if Punk, who returned to WWE at Survivor Series in November, made it back in time for 2K to include him as a playable character at launch. That was confirmed last week when the full roster was announced.
Punk posted a video on his Instagram with a confused dog that was captioned, "When you're looking at the roster for WWE 2K and don't see CM Punk."
Even though it will take some additional time for 2K to build an avatar for the Best in the World, he will be included in a WWE video game for the first time since WWE 2K15 was released in 2014.
WWE 2K24 drops on March 8 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One and PC.
Becky Lynch Talks Conor McGregor in WWE
The full effects of the UFC-WWE merger are starting to be felt after Michael Chandler cut a promo calling out Conor McGregor on last week's episode of Raw.
McGregor has yet to respond to his potential future opponent, but it will almost certainly come at some point soon.
In the meantime, Becky Lynch thinks there's an opportunity for McGregor to show up on WWE television at some point.
"I believe he's inspired by the WWE. I think it's very possible, I think it's very possible," Lynch said when asked about McGregor showing up on Raw during an interview with Submission Radio (starts at 3:45 mark).
McGregor has a lot of pro-wrestler in him as far as how he cuts promos and antagonizes opponents. It's a strategy that has made him one of the most-bankable mixed martial artists of all-time.
Everyone is still waiting on UFC to sign the McGregor-Chandler fight that has been teased since they were announced as coaches for The Ultimate Fighter season 31 in February 2023.
Chandler's promo on the Feb. 20 episode of Raw is another step in the ongoing battle of words between the two stars. It was also an indication of how UFC and WWE can use their television to help cross-promote events in the future.
Piper Niven Reportedly Out with Hand Injury
Chelsea Green's recent run of singles matches might have been spurred on by an injury to her tag team partner.
Per Fightful Select (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News), Piper Niven recently suffered a hand injury that has kept her off television for the past few weeks.
The exact nature of Niven's injury isn't clear at this point, but there is some concern her hand could be fractured.
Niven hasn't wrestled a match since she and Green lost to Natalya and Tegan Nox during the Main Event taping on Feb. 5. Green has worked as a singles competitor over the past three weeks, including losing to Raquel Rodriguez on Monday's episode of Raw.
After Sonya Deville, who was Green's tag partner and one half of the women's tag team champs, tore her ACL during a match on the July 28 episode of SmackDown, Niven returned to television a few weeks later and declared herself Green's new partner.
The duo held the tag titles until Dec. 18 when they were defeated by Kayden Carter and Katana Chance on Raw.
