Report: LSU's Jayden Daniels Won't Throw at NFL Combine Amid Raiders, Draft Rumors

Julia StumbaughFeb 25, 2024

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, a projected first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Daniels is the No. 24 overall player on Bleacher Report's 2024 NFL Draft Big Board with a grade of 7.8.

He will throw for scouts at LSU's Pro Day on March 27 in Baton Rouge, according to Rapoport.

Rapoport added that Daniels will still interview at the combine, which begins Monday in Indianapolis.

Projected top pick and USC quarterback Caleb Williams is also not expected to throw at the combine, Jordan Schultz reported for Bleacher Report.

Other top quarterback prospects are expected to throw, including Washington's Michael Penix Jr., Oregon's Bo Nix and Michigan's J.J. McCarthy, according to Rapoport.

It is not yet confirmed if UNC quarterback Drake Maye will be throwing in Indianapolis. If he chooses to attend the combine, the absences of Williams and Daniels will all but ensure he is the center of quarterback scouts' focus.

Daniels beat out Penix, Nix and Harrison for the 2023 Heisman Trophy after ranking third in the FBS with 3,812 yards and tying for first with 40 touchdowns. He also added 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

The last LSU player to win the Heisman was Joe Burrow, who was then selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the top pick of the 2020 draft.

The B/R NFL Scouting Department report on Daniels describes him as a quarterback with "elite athleticism" with "above-average pocket management" who is at risk of injury due to his 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame.

The report adds that the LSU quarterback shows "very good deep-ball accuracy" but "inconsistent accuracy to the short and intermediate areas."

The news of Daniels' combine absence comes the same day that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the Las Vegas Raiders have their "eye on" Daniels. The quarterback is projected as a top-five pick, and the Raiders, picking at No. 13, are considering making a trade to ensure they get him, according to Fowler.

Raiders scouts will have to wait until LSU's Pro Day to confirm Daniels is worth what could be a costly trade.
