Former NFL star running back Adrian Peterson denied that he allowed a company conducting an estate sale on his behalf to auction off his trophies.

"I want to clarify recent rumors and media reports," Peterson began.

"An estate sale company, without my authorization, included some of my trophies in the sale despite clear instructions to leave personal items untouched. I did not authorize the sale of any of my trophies, and I will be taking legal action.

"Trusting this company without supervision was my mistake. We allowed them to go into several of my storage units, with clear instructions. They clearly did something unlawful.

"I want to emphasize that I am financially stable and would never sell of my hard-earned trophies."

Nearly 1,000 items are currently available for bidding on hibid.com under the headline: "Adrian Peterson Final Auction." Some of them are prestigious trophies, including Peterson's 2012 NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year awards. Other items available for bidding including various game balls and signed jerseys.

The auction also includes many things unrelated to his football career, including shoes, clothes and furniture.

Peterson played in the NFL from 2007 to 2021, primarily with the Minnesota Vikings. He finished his career with 17,392 yards from scrimmage and 126 touchdowns. The seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All-Pro is the only non-quarterback to win the MVP award since 2007.
