The NFL's 2024 salary cap could "be closer to" $250 million compared to earlier reports of a $243 million threshold, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The league and the NFL Players Association are expected to enter final negotiations to determine the exact number at the Scouting Combine, which starts on Feb. 26 and runs through March 4. Per Florio, the final salary cap value will likely emerge "next week."

This represents a significant increase over the 2023 salary cap of $224.8 million. The 2023 number already represented a spike of over $16 million from the 2022 salary cap of $208.2 million.

It isn't difficult to see why the NFL has continued to make money, as the 2024 season drew the attention of millions of viewers and set numerous records.

The Super Bowl 58 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers became the most-watched telecast in history with an average of 123.4 million viewers across CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, CBS Sports, and NFL digital properties which included NFL+.

Per Spotrac, 11 teams are currently over the projected salary cap for 2024. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders are expected to have the most cap space entering free agency with the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears sitting at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Suffice it to say, the NFL is continuing to grow exponentially following the league's original salary cap of $34.6 million in 1994.
