Damian Lillard Reflects on Tying Michael Jordan's Record at NBA All-Star Weekend 2024
Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard called it a "special accomplishment" to win the Three-Point Contest title and All-Star Game MVP this weekend.
Michael Jordan in 1988 had been the only player to come out on top during an All-Star Saturday Night event before claiming MVP.
"Regardless of how it had to happen or what type of events they are, the fact that nobody has done it since 1988 I think that shows how difficult it is," he said to ESPN's Malika Andrews. "When you go from your competition to a game to even being in a game with this many great players where anybody could decide to be aggressive and just take off, so it's an honor to be mentioned next to [Jordan]."
Lillard successfully defended his three-point title with a score of 26 in the last round. He nailed his final shot in the waning seconds to edge out Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young. The Minnesota Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns had also advanced to the final stage.
The following night, Lillard dropped a team-high 39 points as the Eastern Conference scored an All-Star Game-record 211 points in a victory over the Western Conference. He hit 11 three-pointers, the last of which saw him spot up from half court.
It was certainly a weekend to remember for the eight-time All-Star.
