Lakers' LeBron James Got Treatment on Ankle Injury; May 'Possibly' Miss Warriors Game

Andrew PetersFeb 18, 2024

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said he received treatment on his ankle ahead of All-Star Weekend and will receive more in the coming days, per the Los Angeles Times' Dan Woike.

The injury could play a role in how many minutes James plays during Sunday night's All-Star Game in Indianapolis, Indiana.

"I won't be playing the entire game tonight for sure," James said at his media availability on Sunday, per Rachel Nichols.

James also mentioned that the ankle injury could keep him out of Thursday's matchup against the Golden State Warriors, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

James' ankle injury caused the veteran to miss the Lakers' final game before the All-Star break against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Despite being the oldest player in the league, James has missed just seven games all year.

James, who will be making his 20th All-Star Game appearance in 21 years, is putting up 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game this season. He initially injured his ankle in December and has dealt with it ever since.

The Lakers have struggled in the first half of the season, but went into the All-Star break on a positive note, winning six of their last seven games. James and his co-star, Anthony Davis, have been consistent since the start of the new year, which has helped the Lakers start to turn things around.

Los Angeles still has plenty of work to do to ensure a playoff appearance, sitting in ninth place in the Western Conference at 30-26. With the bottom half of the Western Conference playoff picture still wide open, the Lakers could improve their standing if they continue strong play after the break.

After the All-Star break, the Lakers won't play again until Thursday, which gives James some additional time to treat his ankle and gear up for the second half of the season.
