Jake Paul Responds to Hearn's Amanda Serrano vs Katie Taylor Rematch Fight Comments

Mike ChiariFeb 17, 2024

Jake Paul responded Saturday to recent comments made by boxing promoter Eddie Hearn regarding a potential rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

Paul, who is Serrano's promoter, made it clear that no discussions for Serrano vs. Taylor II have taken place, and that Serrano is focused on her fight against Nina Meinke in her home country of Puerto Rico next month:

Paul's post on X came on the heels of Hearn mentioning Serrano as a potential next opponent for Taylor during an interview with Vincent Whelan of the Irish Sun on Friday:

"The Serrano fight is still a fight which definitely works. But the first two fights with [Chantelle] Cameron were two fight of the year contenders and I think the focus is definitely on the trilogy. The latest would be early June, but in an ideal world, we'd like that to take place in May."

Serrano and Taylor first fought in April 2022 with Taylor winning by split decision and handing Serrano only her second career loss.

At 46-2-1 and with multiple featherweight, junior featherweight, light welterweight, super featherweight, lightweight, bantamweight and junior bantamweight title reigns to her credit, the 35-year-old Serrano is widely regarded as one of the greatest women's boxers of all time.

One of the only blemishes on her record is the loss to Taylor, who is 23-1 in her own right and is the reigning unified light welterweight champ.

After beating Serrano, Taylor had two bouts against Cameron, losing the first one by majority decision in May 2023 before winning the rematch by majority decision in November 2023.

Both bouts were considered to be among he best in boxing that year, so making Taylor vs. Cameron a trilogy makes all the sense in the world.

However, Serrano vs. Taylor is arguably the biggest fight that can happen in women's boxing, so there is plenty of incentive for both sides to make the rematch a reality as well.

Paul admitted that Serrano would like to face Taylor again before she retires in an effort to avenge the loss, but she has another big fight on the horizon first.

Fighting in Puerto Rico for the first time since 2021, Serrano will put her unified featherweight title on the line against Meinke on March 2.

Meinke, who is a 30-year-old boxer from Germany, is 18-3 in her pro career and is on a six-fight winning streak, but she is still a fairly substantial underdog.

Serrano and Meinke will be the headliners, but Paul will also be part of the March 2 card, facing boxer Ryan Bourland, who has a career record of 17-2.

Assuming Serrano takes care of business against Meinke, a rematch with Taylor could be back on her radar, but the likelihood of that fight happening could depend on how Taylor fares in a potential third clash with Cameron.
