Jordan Spieth Disqualified from 2024 Genesis Invitational for Incorrect Scorecard

Andrew PetersFeb 16, 2024

Jordan Spieth has been disqualified from the 2024 Genesis Invitation after signing an incorrect scorecard, the PGA Tour announced Friday.

According to PGA Tour Communications, Spieth signed for a three on the fourth hole but actually made a four.

Through the first three holes, Spieth had notched four birdies, four bogeys and a double. On the fourth hole, which was a par-3, Spieth made a bogey after missing a four-foot put for par. On the fifth hole, Spieth made a birdie before being disqualified.

Following his disqualification, Spieth acknowledged the situation on social media.

"Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct," Spieth wrote on X. "Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility. I love this tournament and golf course as much as any on @PGATOUR so it hurts to not have a run at the weekend. Really appreciated the support in LA."

Although Spieth's bogey was noted in real-time on the leaderboard, because he signed the scorecard saying he hit par on the hole, it was grounds for disqualification.

Spieth's disqualification from the event marks his third in the last four years. He was disqualified from the Hero World Challenge in 2021 for playing from the wrong tees and was disqualified from the JP McManus Pro-Am last year for scooping up his ball from the green before it went in the hole.

Following the disqualification, Spieth will be looking to bounce back and get back in the win column soon. Spieth has won 13 times on the PGA Tour, with his last win coming in 2022 at the RBC Heritage.
