NFL Insider: Each Cowboys Loss Under Mike McCarthy Will Bring 'Whispers' of Belichick

Mike McCarthy will not only be coaching out the last season of his contract in 2024, he'll also reportedly be doing so with Bill Belichick staring in his rearview mirror.

Dan Graziano of ESPN reported McCarthy will face "whispers" about Belichick with every loss next season.

Belichick and the New England Patriots parted ways after 24 seasons last month, and the legendary coach did not land another job. The future Hall of Famer only interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and is expected to be patiently waiting for an offer—if he even wants to coach again.

The Cowboys, rife with Super Bowl talent on both sides of the ball, would offer Belichick the rare chance for immediate contention. Dallas has won 12 games in three straight seasons under McCarthy but has posted just a 1-3 postseason record.

While some expected McCarthy to be fired after the Cowboys' blowout loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round, owner Jerry Jones decided to retain him for at least one more season. That said, Jones did open the door to possibly working with Belichick in the future.

"I know him personally and I like him," Jones told reporters in January. "There's no doubt in my mind we could work together. None. None."

McCarthy is 42-25 overall with the Cowboys.
