Brock Purdy Calls Mahomes '1 of the Best to Ever Do It' After 49ers' Super Bowl Loss

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy knows he went to battle with a future Hall of Fame signal-caller on Sunday night at Allegiant Stadium.

Following the 49ers' 25-22 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58, Purdy was quick to praise Patrick Mahomes, who he dubbed "one of the best to ever do it," while speaking with reporters after the game.

"One of the best to ever do it, honestly," Purdy said. "... He's a baller."

Despite throwing an interception to kick off the third quarter, Mahomes was brilliant in Sunday's title game, throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to rushing for 66 yards en route to being named Super Bowl MVP for the third time in his career.

The 28-year-old helped Kansas City come back from down 10-3 at halftime to secure Sunday's big win.

He found veteran wide receiver Mecole Hardman for the game-winning touchdown in overtime after the defense held Purdy and Co. to a field goal on the first offensive possession of the extra period.

And while the 49ers lost, Purdy should at least be proud that he led San Francisco to the Super Bowl in his first full season as the starting quarterback. After being selected with the last pick in the 2022 draft, no one had expected the Iowa State product to come close to winning an NFL championship.

While Purdy did help his team to the Super Bowl, he told reporters that he was hurting for head coach Kyle Shanahan as well as his teammates:

If one thing is clear, it's that Purdy has a bright future ahead and the 49ers are on the cusp of winning a title.
