Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker set a Super Bowl record, as his 57-yard kick in the third quarter represented the longest made field goal in the history of the iconic game.

The previous record was set earlier in the contest by San Francisco 49ers rookie kicker Jake Moody, whose 55-yard make in the second quarter opened the scoring and gave the team an early 3-0 lead.

Prior to Sunday's action, the original record was held Steve Christie. Christie connected on a 54-yard field goal for the Buffalo Bills during the team's Super Bowl matchup against the Dallas Cowboys in 1994. Chiefs fans will likely be hoping for a different result though, as the Bills eventually fell to the Cowboys by the final score of 30-13.

Butker has been one of the most consistent kickers in the league throughout the year, connecting on 33 of his 35 field-goal attempts in the regular season. This included a perfect 5-5 mark from at least 50 yards, with his season-long 60-yard field goal occurring during a win over the Denver Broncos on Oct. 12.

The 28-year-old has remained flawless throughout Kansas City's current postseason run, connecting on all seven of his field goal tries as well as all seven of his extra point attempts. The Super Bowl record represented his second made kick of the game, as he hit a 28-yard field goal to put the Chiefs on the board just before halftime.
