Heat's Terry Rozier Out vs. Celtics with Apparent Leg Injury After Hard Fall

Julia StumbaughFeb 11, 2024

Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier will not return to Sunday's game against the Boston Celtics after suffering an apparent leg injury, per Ira Winderman of the Sun-Sentinel.

After a hard landing in the third quarter, Rozier fell to his court and appeared to clutch at his right knee.

He was walking with a limp as he was helped off the court and led to the locker room.

Rozier had 13 points, four rebounds and six assists in 24 minutes prior to his injury.

He will be the second Heat starter missing from Sunday's game. Jimmy Butler was also absent due to a death in his family.

The Heat's roster was further thinned by an injury that saw bench guard Josh Richardson leave the game in the second quarter. Richardson's injury followed a collision that Winderman speculated might have resulted in a dislocated right shoulder.

It is likely the Heat will lean on Tyler Herro to lead the Miami backcourt in the absence of Rozier and Richardson.

Any potential longer-term injury to Rozier would be a blow to the Heat, who traded Kyle Lowry and a protected 2027 first-rounder to the Charlotte Hornets for the high-scoring guard on Jan. 23 but have yet to see him reach his full potential in Miami.

Since his trade from Charlotte, where he was averaging 23.2 points through 30 games, Rozier has averaged just 12.6 points in nine games with the Heat. He has only exceeded the 20-point threshold once since the trade.

But Rozier has indicated previously it will take time for him to adjust to the first midseason trade of his career.

"I've never been traded in the middle of the season," Rozier said Jan. 27, per Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald. "I'm playing with guys that I'm actually open now because they're getting a lot of attention. I'm not so used to that. But we'll figure it out."

The Heat need Rozier healthy to make that adjustment, so the team will hope to receive positive injury news about the veteran guard after the game.
