Heat's Haywood Highsmith Involved in Car Crash After Magic Game; Out vs. Spurs
The Miami Heat announced forward Haywood Highsmith was involved in a car accident after Tuesday's 121-95 win over the Orlando Magic.
"Highsmith is listed as out for tonight's contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons," the team said. "Our hearts go out to those who were injured."
The Heat confirmed earlier in the day Highsmith wouldn't suit up against San Antonio but didn't offer the circumstances behind his absence.
The 27-year-old came off the bench to play three minutes in Tuesday's win. It was his second-lowest usage of the season.
Highsmith has been a regular contributor for the Heat. Through 37 appearances, he's averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 43.1 percent overall and 37.4 percent from three-point range.
The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson clarified that Highsmith "had no significant injuries" stemming from Tuesday night's accident. Still, his status beyond Wednesday remains unclear. The Heat won't be back in action until Sunday, when they host the Boston Celtics at Kaseya Center.
