Chris Paul Trade Rumors: Warriors Not Expected to Move Star at 2024 NBA Deadline

Doric SamFeb 7, 2024

The Golden State Warriors are hoping to improve their roster before Thursday's NBA trade deadline, but they reportedly are unlikely to move a veteran point guard to do so.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst said on Wednesday's episode of The Hoop Collective that he believes Chris Paul will remain with the Warriors past the deadline.

"I don't know what they're gonna do. I don't think that they're gonna trade Chris Paul, for various reasons," Windhorst said around the 53:20 mark.

Paul has been out since Jan. 5 after suffering a fracture in his left hand that required surgery. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported at the time that Paul was expected to miss four to six weeks.

The 38-year-old, who was acquired this past offseason from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole, has endured a trying season in his first year with Golden State. In his 32 appearances with 11 starts, he averaged career lows of 8.9 points and 27.6 minutes. Still, he managed to lead the Warriors with 7.2 assists per game.

Golden State sits last in the Pacific Division with a 22-25 record. It will be a tough road ahead for the Warriors as they try to make a push for the playoffs, as they have an aging roster that has struggled to keep up with the rest of the NBA.

Windhorst named Andrew Wiggins as a player Golden State will be looking to move before Thursday's trade deadline, but he noted that the team is unlikely to land a difference-maker in return for him.

"The real question is, would they trade Wiggins, and if they have a Wiggins trade, is it a deal that actually can make them better? They would probably be selling pretty low on Wiggins if they traded him right now," Windhorst said.

Time is running out for the Warriors to figure out their best path toward turning their season around. They will be in action on Wednesday night in a road matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.
