NBA Rumors: Celtics' Jaylen Brown 'Seriously Considering' Joining Slam Dunk Contest

There may be some star power in this year's NBA Slam Dunk Contest.

Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics "is seriously considering" participating in the event:

"Brown has been mulling over the possibility for several weeks and appears to be very much in play," Charania said.

This year's contest will be part of the All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 17 in Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium.

The night of events will also feature the Skills Challenge, Three-Point Contest and a special three-point contest between Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu.

One of the criticisms regarding the Slam Dunk Contest in recent years has been the lack of star power.

It was once arguably the headliner event of All-Star Weekend and has featured players such as Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Julius Erving, Dominique Wilkins, Clyde Drexler, Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin and Donovan Mitchell.

Yet there hasn't been many household names in recent contests with Hamidou Diallo, Derrick Jones Jr., Anfernee Simons, Obi Toppin and Mac McClung winning the last five. That's not to take anything away from their performances, especially after McClung put on a show last year, but those names don't exactly stack up to some of the participants and winners of the past.

Brown would bring some more name recognition to the event.

Not only does he play for one of the league's marquee franchises, he is also a three-time All-Star who was an All-NBA Second Team selection last season. He does a number of things on the court well, including soaring to the rim for dunks.

And he may put that on display in the Slam Dunk Contest.
