Seahawks Rumors: Jim Harbaugh's Son Jay to Be Hired as Special Teams Coordinator

Michigan is losing another member of the Harbaugh family.

Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reported Jay Harbaugh is expected to become the special teams coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. He had spent nine years on staff with the Wolverines under his father, Jim.

Michigan already named Jay's replacement, promoting J.B. Brown to special teams coordinator last Friday. That came after MLive.com's Aaron McMann reported a day earlier Harbaugh was looking to move on to the NFL and expected to rejoin his father with the Los Angeles Chargers.

It's a bit ironic Harbaugh is heading to the Pacific Northwest. The Seahawks were the San Francisco 49ers' biggest rivals when Jim coached the team, though that might have been more of an interpersonal dynamic between he and Pete Carroll, who's no longer on the sidelines in Seattle.

Jay may have ultimately preferred no longer tying his coaching career to his father. Going to the Seahawks presents a new challenge and one in which he's out of his dad's shadow.

The 34-year-old also has past history with newly hired head coach Mike Macdonald as well. When Macdonald became a coaching intern for the Baltimore Ravens in 2014, Harbaugh was an offensive quality control coach for the team.
