National Signing Day 2024: Announcement Schedule, Predictions and More
Wednesday is National Signing Day, which used to be the newsiest day on the college football recruiting calendar. That's no longer the case, because the majority of high school recruits sign with college programs during the early signing period in December.
However, there's still always some news on the traditional signing day, and that will be the case again this year. Some unsigned recruits could flip their commitments, while others haven't yet decided on a school.
To keep track of the announcement schedule, check in at 247Sports.com. More should be added as Wednesday gets closer.
Here are several predictions for noteworthy events that could occur on this year's National Signing Day.
Will 5-Star WR Terry Bussey Flip from Texas A&M to LSU?
1 of 3
Texas A&M could be in store for a case of déjà vu, and not the good kind. In December, 5-star defensive lineman Dominick McKinley decommitted and flipped to LSU. Now, another 5-star recruit in the 2024 class could flip from the Aggies to the Tigers come signing day.
Terry Bussey, a 5-star wide receiver out of Timpson (Texas) High School, has been committed to Texas A&M since Sept. 28. But he hasn't yet signed and has been visiting several SEC schools, including Georgia (Jan. 26) and LSU (Jan. 31).
According to On3's Sam Spiegelman, Bussey is deciding between Texas A&M and LSU. It's still possible the No. 11 overall recruit in the class (per 247Sports Composite) could choose either program.
However, the prediction here is that Bussey will follow McKinley in flipping his commitment. The Tigers will be getting a huge boost with the addition of the 5-star receiver.
Prediction: Bussey flips to LSU
4-Star WR Gatlin Bair Will Honor Fresh Commitment to Oregon
2 of 3
Heading into signing day, 4-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair was expected to be one of the best 2024 recruits who remained uncommitted. That will no longer be the case, though.
On Saturday, Bair announced he'll be heading to Oregon to begin his college career. The Burley (Idaho) High School standout had been deciding between Oregon and Michigan, but he opted to commit to the former.
"I'm super excited about Oregon and what Coach [Dan] Lanning is building," Bair said, per Brandon Huffman of 247Sports.com.
It's not a huge surprise that Bair (the No. 43 overall recruit in the 2024 class, per 247Sports Composite) picked the Ducks over the Wolverines, who recently lost head coach Jim Harbaugh when he was hired to lead the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers.
Because Bair committed so close to signing day, it seems unlikely he'll flip now. Expect him to be signing with Oregon.
Prediction: Bair signs with Oregon
Could Houston Land 4-Star RB J'Marion Burnette?
3 of 3
One of the top uncommitted recruits in the 2024 class is J'Marion Burnette, a 4-star running back out of Andalusia (Ala.) High School. The No. 381 overall recruit in the class (per 247Sports Composite) was once committed to Auburn, but he decommitted on Nov. 2.
Burnette could still end up playing for the Tigers, who are among the schools still in the mix to land the RB. But they aren't alone. Arkansas and Missouri both hosted Burnette for official visits in the past two months, so either could get him to sign.
Another team has emerged in the picture, though. Houston extended an offer to Burnette on Jan. 21, and he shared a post about it when it happened. Could the Cougars be a sleeper team to keep an eye on during this pursuit of the 4-star RB?
It would be a bit of a surprise, but the prediction here is that Burnette ends up picking Houston, choosing the Cougars over the host of SEC teams in the race.
Prediction: Burnette signs with Houston
