Lakers' Darvin Ham on LeBron James' Post: I Would've Put Out 2 or 3 Hourglass Emojis
Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham had quite the response to LeBron James' cryptic tweet from January 31.
James tweeted out an hourglass emoji following the Lakers loss to Atlanta Hawks. It could be inferred that it was in reference to the fact that "time is ticking" in regards to the Lakers contention chances.
When asked about James' tweet, Ham agreed with the assessment and admitted that he would "put two or three hourglass emojis by now."
Los Angeles is currently 25-25 on the season and sit in ninth place in the Western Conference.
This has the Lakers currently in position to participate in the play-in tournament and dangerously close to missing out on the postseason as a whole.
This would be a major step backwards for a team that reached the Conference Finals a season ago. Additionally, the Lakers won the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament earlier this season, but have collapsed since.
With James' long-term future uncertain, not contending this year could be dire. He has a player-option for the 2024-25 season, which means he could hit free agency this Summer if he desired. He also is 39-years-old and could be mulling retirement, so trying to capture another championship in the near future is likely at the forefront of his mind.
This Lakers team should have the talent to do just that. James, alongside players like Anthony Davis and D'Angelo Russell. provide a significant jolt of ability to make the Lakers a formidable force.
Los Angeles will need to step up down the stretch in order to reach its potential and make some noise in the postseason. Not doing so could definitely impact James' choice going forward.
