Austin Reaves Wows Fans as Lakers Beat Celtics Without LeBron James, Anthony Davis

Doric SamFeb 1, 2024

Call it The Austin Reaves Game.

The Los Angeles Lakers faced the Boston Celtics without their two best players in LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who both sat out the same game for the first time this year with lower-body injuries. While facing the team with the best record in the NBA. Reaves put forth a scintilating performance to lead the Lakers to a 114-105 win over the Celtics.

Reaves dropped 32 points with a career-high seven three-pointers to spearhead the victory over Los Angeles' longtime rival. Each time the Celtics tried to make a run, Reaves would answer and quiet the crowd at TD Garden. Boston got no closer than within six points of the lead in the fourth quarter.

The third-year guard has now scored a combined 60 points over his last two games. He is a coveted player around the league ahead of the Feb. 8 trade deadline, but his recent outings have shown why the Lakers have no plans of moving him.

Fans on social media were blown away by Reaves' dominant performance against the best team in the league on Thursday:

The Lakers have struggled to find consistency this year, but giving Reaves an expanded role could help them turn things around. After improving to 25-25, Los Angeles should consider giving Reaves more opportunities even after James and Davis return to the lineup.

The Lakers will try to keep the momentum going when they visit the New York Knicks on Saturday night.
