Patrick Mahomes Crowned by Chiefs Teammate: 'Probably the Best Player in NFL History'

Tyler ConwayFeb 1, 2024

Patrick Mahomes has already built a Hall of Fame resume, and his teammates think he's only going to keep going from here.

Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid called Mahomes "probably the best player in NFL history" in an interview with TMZ Sports.

"The guy is a Hall of Famer," Reid said of Mahomes. "First ballot. Probably the best player in NFL history. And he just keeps getting better."

While Mahomes has a long way to go to find himself in the conversation with Tom Brady as the greatest quarterback in NFL history, he's not far off some other all-timers. He already has as many Super Bowl appearances as Peyton Manning and Joe Montana at age 28. With two more playoff touchdowns, he'll pass Manning on the all-time list for fifth all time, and he's seven away from moving into second place in history behind Brady.

Again, this is all being done before Mahomes' 30th birthday.

Four of Brady's seven Super Bowl titles came after age 35.

Barring a catastrophic injury, Mahomes will continue competing at the top of the sport for at least another decade. It's difficult to call something certain at the NFL level, but Mahomes emerging in the conversation as one of the two or three greatest quarterbacks in league history seems as close to a lock as anything.

The Chiefs have seemingly become this generation's Brady-Belichick Patriots, inevitable even when they look like an underdog. Mahomes is the biggest reason for that ascent, so calling him the GOAT isn't as outlandish as it sounds initially.
