The Chiefs started Wednesday morning as a two-point underdog, which is down a point from the opening line posted immediately after the matchup with the San Francisco 49ers was set.
Kansas City is 2-1 in the Super Bowl during the Mahomes era. The first victory occurred against the 49ers four years ago.

Mahomes, Kelce and Co. won as a favorite against San Francisco and captured the Vince Lombardi Trophy as an underdog last season against the Philadelphia Eagles.
San Francisco is a worthy favorite because of the season it had, but many people will bet on Kansas City because of Mahomes and his Super Bowl history.
Super Bowl Odds
Spread: Kansas City (-2)
Over/Under: 47
Money Line: San Francisco (-125; bet $125 to win $100); Kansas City (+105; bet $100 to win $105)
Picks
Kansas City (+2) and Under 47
Mahomes and the Chiefs won outright as road underdogs in each of the last two weeks to reach the Super Bowl.
Kansas City was counted out by some bettors for its trips to Buffalo and Baltimore, but others relished in the opportunity to bet on Mahomes in the playoffs as an underdog.
The same situation is in place in Super Bowl 58 against the 49ers. Mahomes will earn the blind trust of some bettors because he is reaching Tom Brady status with how automatic he is in the postseason.
Kansas City's real edge will come on defense, where Chris Jones and Co. can make life difficult for Brock Purdy.
Purdy struggled at points of both playoff games and that was enough to spark some concern about his Super Bowl performance.
The 49ers signal-caller made a handful of mistakes against the Green Bay Packers and threw an interception versus the Detroit Lions.
Purdy's play against Green Bay was affected by Deebo Samuel's shoulder injury and it took a second-half comeback against the Lions to clear up some of the first-half errors.
Kansas City's defense forced three turnovers against Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game and it forced another in the wild-card round victory over the Miami Dolphins.
The Chiefs held the Dolphins, Ravens and Buffalo Bills to a combined 41 points. A similar defensive performance could not just slow down the 49ers, but help the under cash as well.
The under is 2-1 in the three Mahomes-era Chiefs Super Bowls and it hit in the last title game meeting with the 49ers. That total was set at 53 points and 51 points were scored.
Kansas City's defense allowed a single opponent to score over 20 points since Week 14, while the 49ers allowed 21 points or fewer in 13 games this season.
Mahomes will likely deliver some offensive magic, but he likely will not have a robust stat line because of the strong defense San Francisco possesses.
