Warriors' Chris Paul Cleared for Light Workout; out at Least 2 Weeks with Hand Injury

Doric SamJan 30, 2024

Three weeks after undergoing surgery for a fracture in his left hand, Golden State Warriors point guard Chris Paul was re-evaluated and received some positive news.

The Warriors announced that Paul "is making good progress" and has been cleared to resume light individual on-court workouts. He will be re-evaluated in another two weeks.

Paul has missed the last eight games after suffering the injury on Jan. 5 against the Detroit Pistons. It was another setback in a trying season for the veteran floor general.

Paul wasn't able to make much of an impact while healthy. In 32 games with 11 starts, he averaged a career-low 8.9 points, though he did lead Golden State with 7.2 assists.

The Warriors acquired Paul from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Jordan Poole. However, the team has struggled this season, ranking last in the Pacific Division with a 19-24 record. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium recently reported that Golden State is exploring the trade market for Paul and other key players.

"They're gonna take calls on Andrew Wiggins, Chris Paul. Could they get interest even on a guy like Klay Thompson? I think those are very much open conversations for the Warriors. They have to be open-minded," Charania said.

Paul is making $30.8 million this season on an expiring contract, so it wouldn't be a surprise if his days in the Bay Area are numbered. Perhaps the team will be able to find a landing spot for him where he can be more effective and still chase the NBA title that has eluded him throughout his impressive career.
