NBA Rumors: Cavs' Darius Garland Expected to Return from Jaw Injury vs. Pistons
Cleveland Cavaliers star Darius Garland is expected to return from his jaw injury Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
Charania detailed the extent of the injury and recovery period on FanDuel TV's Run It Back:
Garland has been out of the lineup since a 116-107 loss to the Boston Celtics on Dec. 14. In the meantime, Cleveland has been surging. The Cavs have won 10 of their last 11 to move to fifth in the Eastern Conference and 5.5 games clear of a play-in tournament position.
Monday's 118-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers saw Evan Mobley's return to the court. The third-year forward had 10 points and nine rebounds in just under 21 minutes.
Getting Garland back would mean the Cavaliers are back to full strength. Ty Jerome is the only other player listed in their injury report.
The 6'1" guard is averaging 20.7 points and 5.9 assists through 20 games this year. While his three-point shooting (34.6 percent) is trending below his career average, his 47.0 percent overall rate is on pace to be a personal best.
For head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, there will be a bit of a challenge with weaving Garland back in while balancing what has worked during the team's hot stretch. That's a problem Bickerstaff and his staff will more than welcome, though.
