Dolphins Rumors: Former NFL HC Leslie Frazier to Have DC Interview After Fangio Exit

The Miami Dolphins are planning on interviewing former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier regarding the team's opening at defensive coordinator, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

After former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio left and took over the same role with the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, it appears that Miami is considering Frazier as a potential replacement.

His most recent coaching experience came with the Buffalo Bills, where he served as an assistant head coach from 2020 through 2022 while overseeing the defense since 2017.

The Bills announced in Feb. 2023 that Frazier decided he would take a year off from coaching, although it appears that he's ready to come back and potentially join an AFC East rival. The veteran coach spoke about his desire to return to the sidelines in a Jan. 5 interview.

"I want to be able to be a part of this hiring cycle," Frazier said, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. "I would love to be able to interview with an owner or organization for one of the head coach vacancies. And I'm basing it on my past experience as a head coach who took a team to the playoffs, the success I've had in the NFL as a coordinator. And hope that would warrant me that opportunity."

The Los Angeles Chargers officially interviewed him for the team's head coaching vacancy on Jan. 14, while Mark Anderson of the Associated Press revealed that the Las Vegas Raiders scheduled an interview with him as a possible head coach as well. Although Frazier wasn't selected for either role, it's easy to see why multiple organizations have been interested in his services.

Frazier has won two Super Bowls, one as a player for the Chicago Bears and another as a coach for the Indianapolis Colts. His Bills defenses routinely finished among the best in the NFL in most major categories, ranking No. 1 and No. 2 in scoring defense during his final two seasons in Buffalo respectively.
