NFL Coach: Lamar Jackson 'Still Not Naturally Accurate' Despite Odds-On MVP Favorite

Timothy RappJan 29, 2024

Lamar Jackson's potential legacy is going to be a popular topic of conversation this offseason after the Baltimore Ravens' quarterback played poorly in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

One area of improvement for Jackson going forward is a familiar topic when it comes to his career—his accuracy through the air.

"Lamar got a lot better this season," a veteran coach told The Athletic's Mike Sando on Monday. "I thought he got more accurate and they gave him more easy completions. He's still not naturally accurate, and I think the more sped up he gets, the less accurate he is. The problem is, the highs and the lows. He threw for like 3,700 yards and ran for 800—his numbers are unbelievable. But in those critical situations, that is what the league is about."

Against the Chiefs, Jackson finished 20-of-37 for 272 yards, a touchdown, an interception and four sacks taken. A 54.0 completion percentage against a stingy defense like Kansas City's isn't going to cut it with a Super Bowl berth on the line.

Jackson is still going to win his second MVP after a fantastic regular season, but his postseason struggles—he's now just 2-4 in the playoffs—loom large. Improving his accuracy through the air would probably help.
