NFL Rumors: Ken Dorsey to Be Hired as Browns OC After Bills Firing

Andrew PetersJan 28, 2024

The Cleveland Browns are hiring Ken Dorsey to be their offensive coordinator, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator was fired in November in his second season in that position and fifth with Buffalo.

The hiring comes a week after Dorsey's initial interview with Cleveland. According to Rapoport, the 42-year-old impressed the Browns, and it was enough for them to act quickly and take him off the market.

Before the reported move, Dorsey was also set to interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their vacancy at offensive coordinator, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Dorsey was fired after the Bills lost to the Denver Broncos 24-22 and dropped to 5-5. Through the first 10 games of the season, Buffalo's offense grew stagnant and was beginning to hurt its playoff chances, spurring head coach Sean McDermott to make the move.

"We need to be a confident offensive football team, and find consistent production, and that's really what it came down to," McDermott said of the firing in November. "I'm as frustrated as anyone out there. We're trying to win one game at a time right now, and we get a chance to right the ship."

Following Dorsey's firing, the Bills won six of their final seven games to earn a playoff bid. Buffalo ultimately lost in the divisional round to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Browns fired former offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and a handful of assistants just two days after Cleveland's playoff loss to the Houston Texans despite a promising 11-6 season. Now, just a few weeks later, the Browns have their new offensive leader.

Dorsey, a former quarterback, spent three seasons with the Browns as a player from 2006 to 2008.
