Cowboys Rumors: Dan Quinn 'a Strong Candidate' for Commanders' HC amid Seahawks Buzz

Joseph ZuckerJan 28, 2024

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is scheduled to interview with the Washington Commanders on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport reported Quinn is "considered a strong candidate" and has widely been considered at or near the top of Washington's list alongside Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

From the moment the Seattle Seahwaks moved on from Pete Carroll, Quinn was linked with the team. He has spent four years in Seattle over two spells, most recently serving as defensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014 and overseeing the Seahawks' "Legion of Boom" defense.

The Cowboys had one of the NFL's best defenses during the regular season. They ranked fifth in both yards (299.7 per game) and points (18.5) allowed per game and forced 26 takeaways. Dallas was fifth in defense DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average), per FTN Fantasy.

The team's disappointing playoff exit has apparently done little to dent Quinn's coaching stock.

The 48-32 final score in an NFC Wild Card Round loss to the Green Bay Packers doesn't do justice to how much the Cowboys were outclassed. They allowed 415 total yards to Green Bay, and Packers running back finished with 118 yards on the ground and 5.6 yards per carry.

The performance wasn't exactly a great showcase for Quinn.

Still, the 53-year-old remains in the frame for the two teams still looking for a head coach.

Given the pace at which the coaching market is moving, it won't be a surprise if Quinn leans of his final fate within the next week.
