The Potential Teams
2 of 2
The Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs will battle Sunday afternoon for the right to represent the AFC while the Detroit Lions will head to San Francisco to square off with the 49ers, an opportunity to head to Las Vegas for the Super Bowl as NFC champions.
An appearance in the big game for the Ravens would further validate Lamar Jackson as a once-in-a-generation game-changer who cannot only throw the ball 50 yards downfield or take off for an explosive rushing touchdown but can lead his team to the grandest stage professional football has to offer.
A return to the Super Bowl for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, head coach Andy Reid, and the Chiefs would establish them as a modern dynasty. Another appearance in that game would make four for that organization in the last five years. A win in the big game would net them a third Super Bowl ring.
The Detroit Lions have not been to the NFC Championship game since 1991 and the franchise has never appeared in the Super Bowl. Head coach Dan Campbell has completely changed the culture of the organization, from an embarrassing loser to a legitimate contender. Led by quarterback Jared Goff and an exciting core of position players, the team figures to be in the hunt for that elusive Lombardi Trophy for years to come.
The San Francisco 49ers are a star-studded team, with All-Pros at key positions and the best running back in the league leading the way in Christian McCaffrey. Quarterbacked by 2022 Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, the team was the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a pre-season pick to represent the conference in the Super Bowl.
A win for them in the big game would represent their return to the pinnacle of the sport, a place they have closed in on in recent years but has eluded them since the conclusion of the 1995 season.
