Shohei Ohtani, Babe Ruth Joint Autograph Card Sells for $113,460 at Auction
A little piece of baseball history was sold at auction on Saturday night.
A one-of-one Topps Definitive Collection Dual Autograph Cut Signature card signed by both Shohei Ohtani and Babe Ruth, which was pulled by a collector in November, sold at auction for $113,460, according to sports business reporter Darren Rovell.
This particular card depicts both players batting. There is another version of the card, also considered a one-of-one, that features both players pitching.
Ohtani, who is arguably the best player in baseball heading into the 2024 season, signed a record-setting 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers this winter after spending the first six years of his career with the Los Angeles Angels.
The two-way phenom, who is widely considered the modern day Ruth, is a two-time American League MVP, three-time All-Star and a two-time Silver Slugger.
Ohtani won his second AL MVP award in 2023 after hitting .304/.412/.654 with 44 home runs, 95 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 135 games. He also went 10-5 on the mound with a 3.14 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 167 strikeouts in 132.0 innings across 23 starts.
Ruth, a Hall of Famer who played for both the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, won seven World Series titles and earned an MVP award, batting title, ERA title and was a two-time All-Star during his 22-year career that spanned from 1914-1935.
Ruth finished his career hitting .342 with 714 home runs, 2,214 RBI and 123 stolen bases in 2,503 games. He also posted a 2.28 ERA with 488 strikeouts in 163 games on the mound (147 starts).
